The Morning

On arrival to the woodland camp, we'll get you orientated with the site. We'll take a short walk through the woodland and begin to open your mind to the different identifying features of different species of trees. We'll discuss what makes the wood suitable for carving, which woods work better for which projects, and we'll show you sustainable harvesting methods.

Late morning and through the afternoon

You will learn how to select and collect the right wood in its raw state, split and rough out a blank and then proceed to carve a spoon which you will be able to take home with you.

We will also recommend further carving projects and if time allows produce other working kitchen utensils such as long handle spoons and spatula, to practice your new found skills.

All tools and material are provided, and perhaps most importantly, how to use them safely and efficiently to bring your projects to life. There will be hot and cold water for drinks and a base camp style toilet for your comfort. This is a non catered course and so you will need to bring along a packed lunch and snacks.
