Compared to other wax based products in general use, my hand-made Leather and Knife Balm provides a harder finish and has a higher melting point, which means that while it starts off a little harder in the tin, it lasts longer and goes further! It is applied using the same method as standard wax polishes but offers superior protection over softer waxes. Use it as part of your regular maintenance to condition, nourish and protect you blades, axes, sheaths, belts, bags and camp-ware. Being 100% food-safe it’s perfect for cutlery and cookware too. The balm helps protect against and prevent finger marks and staining. This is a particularly desirable quality when used to protect items which receive frequent handling.
OUTDOORSMAN Leather and Knife balm delicately enhances the grain of wood, gives a rich lustre to smooth leather, and provides day-to-day protection for metals. Although it is not specifically a waterproofing product, the wax does repel moisture and damp. Its properties help prevent oxidation of metal surfaces, making it a great choice for your outdoor knives and tools.

OUTDOORSMAN Leather and Knife balm is versatile and very effective. Use it as a protective coating on finished wood over lacquer, varnish or French polish, and on sanded wooden cutting boards; on metal blades, axe heads and surfaces, brass, copper, bronze or steel; on marble, granite and stone; or on smooth leather sheaths, belts and bags. Not for use on suede.
How to use
- Wipe down the item to be treated so that dirt and other residues or contaminants are removed before waxing. Ensure the item is clean and dry before applying wax.
- Using a soft cloth on your fingertips, work the surface of the wax in the tin to slightly soften it and to load the cloth. Apply sparingly to the surface of your item, ensuring full coverage, and wipe away excess. On complex surfaces such as embossed leather, or in very cold temperatures, it may be better to work in the wax using your bare fingertips, taking care to avoid sharp blades and edges!
- Allow to dry completely, and then buff to a sheen with a lint free cloth.
- Repeat the treatment regularly to maintain the protective qualities, and especially after heavy use or exposure to contaminants.
- Wash hands after use.
