This course is a one-day and one-night course aimed at parents and children who want an incredible adventure learning how to live more comfortably in the wilds. Family-friendly, but no less challenging for all, adults and young people will discover together some of the delights of learning to live with the resources available to us in nature. You will be taught by some of the most experienced instructors in the country who have ventured across many wild landscapes to bring you the very best, and safest instruction available.

Here you will build a shelter to sleep in overnight, learn how to rub sticks together to make fire, process your own food and cook on a campfire, as well as learning about the plants and trees surrounding you. Ran in the warmer months of the school holidays we operate this from April through to September, the course is also ran at our other venues in Derbyshire and East Lothian.

Advertised as an 8+ course don't be put off if you have someone slightly younger, just give us a call to chat through. It is not suitable for toddlers however.

To keep costs down for families also we offer a group discount on booking this course, saving you £50 when you book 4 places! Just enter the code MAKEMEMORIES at the checkout when buying 4 places.

After an initial welcome brief in our secure car park you will head down into camp that will be home for the next 24 hours. Our course is designed to be flexible and reactive to the young people but through the duration of the course you will build a shelter to sleep in overnight, prepare your own dinner over the fire and understand the importance of wild game. Fire lighting is always popular and as a family you will have the opportunity to use a variety of fire lighting methods to understand the importance of fire, from the simple ferrocium rod, through to flint and steel and even rubbing two sticks together for those that wish.

We will continue through the afternoon undertaking tracking games to heighten your senses to the environment around you. We will also gather materials to learn how to carve safely as a young person using a fixed blade knife.

After an evening in your shelter you will start the morning making your own bread over the glowing embers of the communal fire, before heading back on a wild walk to what others call civilisation.
