Ray Iles XL Froe
Designed for heavy duty work, the blade is 12 inches long and made from chunky 60mm x 10mm EN45 spring steel, to withstand the twisting forces exerted on it.
Fully hardened and tempered. The blade is ground tapered the full width of the blade, from top to bottom and the canal or cutting edge is rolled, as with our premium froe.
This helps it to glide through the wood, making it easier to use, particularly when entering the wood.
It comes with a substantial 17.5 inch beech shaft which fits snugly into the tapered socket and holds fast. The shaft has been treated with raw linseed oil which improves both the appearance and durability of the wood. We recommend feeding the wood with further applications of linseed oil from time to time.
Froes are used for cleaving lengths of wood for chair making, laths, hurdles, tent pegs, etc, they are driven by striking the back of the blade with a wooden mallet or club.
It is illegal to supply a knife to anyone under the age of 18. Woodland Ways actively checks the details of all orders for knives, and other edged items. Should we be unable to confirm your eligibility, you will be asked to provide proof of age in the form of a photocopy of your drivers licence or passport.
Please include your phone number with your order.
