Jodie Eardley
APPRENTICE INSTRUCTOR
Jodie grew up in the Staffordshire/Cheshire countryside, spending much of her early years exploring the farm and in nearby woodland. From a young age she had a natural pull towards bushcraft, though at the time she didn’t realise there was a wider community around it. Much of what she learned came through curiosity and imitation, inspired by expedition and bushcraft programmes, which she would then recreate in the fields and woodland close to home.
After pursuing a career in art, much of that outdoor time fell away, though the interest never fully left. It wasn’t until her mid to late twenties that she began to find her way back, discovering bushcraft courses and the community that surrounds them.
She was first introduced to Woodland Ways through a canoe course, which opened the door to a different way of engaging with both landscape and learning. From there, she became more involved with Woodland Ways through expeditions and events, eventually choosing to join the apprenticeship.
Since then, Jodie has taken part in a number of expeditions, particularly within Africa, where she has spent time studying track and sign under the Patrick family, gaining a level 3 Cybertracker qualification. Also spending time with a Maasai community, where she has developed a strong interest in both their knowledge and is studying the tribal language . More recently, she returned to Kenya as a expedition 2nd/ Co-leader.
Alongside this, Jodie has also travelled further afield, including time in the Yukon, where she developed a growing interest in canoe travel and the different ways people move through and understand landscapes.
With a background as a tattoo artist, Jodie brings a strong sense of observation and attention to detail into her time outdoors, something that naturally lends itself to tracking and awareness.
