Martin George

APPRENTICE INSTRUCTOR

Martin grew up a Kentish seaside town, a childhood of fishing and sandcastles and adventure. There was plenty of fun to be had in the woods and on the beaches, and he attended his first week-long bushcraft fundamentals course in 2001. Suddenly, there was a whole new world of foraging and fire, trees and shelters!

Over the next twenty years, Martin went off to study Law at university, and he then became a university lecturer. When he wasn’t writing or teaching about law, he was learning about some new aspect of bushcraft, and he went on a multitude of courses and expeditions, from canoeing in Sweden to surviving in Scotland. He became an instructor with Bushscout a few years ago, and from there discovered Woodland Ways. He attended an assessment weekend in early 2025, and was offered a position as an Apprentice Instructor.

He juggles his passion for acquiring new wilderness survival knowledge and skills with his day job as a Professor at a university law school, as well as making sure his four young children have the same kind of adventures that he did growing up.
