'Carved utensils and other objects are a joy to use and to live with. They are the lasting result of meaningful work.' Willi Sundqvist (Swedish carving legend!).
Join us for one of our most popular craft workshops and discover the skills to fabricate your own beautiful wooden utensils.
Arguably one of the most enjoyable of forest crafts. On this half-day workshop you will learn how to free your very own spoon from a sustainably sourced billet of green wood! We will cover safe use of a fixed blade knife and folding saw as well as guiding you through the techniques most appropriate to spoon making.
Once you know how to go about it your imagination is the limit with spoon making. Of course there are many ways of making a spoon but the process covered here can be used to create anything from a teaspoon to a serving type ladle.
Learning Outcomes:
Introduction to tools used
Wood selection
Splitting green wood
Sawing & utilising stop cuts
Shaping the spoon
Using a crook knife
Sanding and finishing
Oiling
This course is for over 16's although under 18's must be accompanied by an adult. Workshops are held at our World Of Bushcraft Centre in the Peak District, where free tea and coffee will be available.
